Does your magazine have any foreign language versions (either print or online) available? If so, do you use a translation service, editors who are bilingual, or what?

A fellow editor brought up an interesting example of a step in this direction: Continental Airlines' in-flight magazine now prints their "letter from the chairman" piece on 2 pages: the first in English, the second in Spanish.

Is this a trend that b2b magazines are following?

Oooh, I *hate* two languages on a page. Awful, lazy stuff. That's a decision straight out of accounting, not editorial or design.

We publish in English, Spanish and Portuguese (and put all of it on the Web at www.latintrade.com). Our model is unique: Content is produced and edited in all three languages. There is no "original" version in one language. So, a fraction of the stories are assigned, written and edited in English, another fraction in Spanish from A-Z and rest in Portuguese.

The percentages fluctuate from issue to issue but the actual editions are "identical" within reason (translation is always cultural), but this model allows me to use editorial talent in, say, Brazil while still producing a version of the magazine in the other two languages

Our biggest circ, by the way, is Spanish, has been for a number of years, yet many people persist in thinking we publish only in English, even in Spanish-speaking countries.

We don't have other language editions, but we do have selected articles translated into Spanish. We partner with a company in Spain that is looking for content and they provide the translation services, subject to our approval.

Tom - what do you do with the selected articles? Are they for your website? Do you do a special section or edition to try and get Spanish advertisers interested? Or have readers asked for this?
