Job Description: EDITOR


1. PURPOSE
Provide vision, editorial direction and creative leadership for the American Ceramic Society Bulletin and ceramicSOURCE, both print and electronic product versions. Direct, develop and manage all aspects of editorial content. Participate in business and strategic management of all aspects of the Bulletin.

2. POSITION REQUIREMENTS
· Five – Seven + years of writing and editorial experience, including at least three - five years in a management/senior management position. Strong writing skills are a must.
· B.S. or advanced degree, preferably with strong preference for a concentration in ceramics and and/or materials science.
· Ability to get up to speed with understanding and appreciating the role that ceramics and other materials play in the research, engineering and manufacturing of a wide variety of applications involving advanced composites.
· Ability to communicate on a professional level with technical experts in the ceramics and materials sciences disciplines.
· Ability to manage a staff of full time and contributing editors.
· Experience with online webzines and newsletters are a plus.
· “Can do” attitude is critical requirement.

3. BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY
Responsible for maintaining the budgets allocated to the Bulletin and ceramicSource.

4. STAFF MEMBERS SUPERVISED
Full time and contributing editors

5. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
a. Reports to the Group Publisher
b. Nominal supervision required.
c. Works closely with Advertising Sales; Production, IT/Web, Data Entry for ceramicSOURCE; Interacts with Marketing; Customer Service/Circulation; Membership, Meetings & Expo, Finance/Accounting, and Administrative.
d. Interacts with Authors, Editorial Advisory Board, Publications Committee, Members, Society Officers, Advertisers and Prospective Advertisers, and General Public.

6. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Will manage the editorial operations and staff, as well as guide the overall strategy and direction, of one of the most respected and long-standing technical publications in the industry – The Bulletin.

7. OUR ORGANIZATION

The Bulletin serves the engineering, manufacturing and academic disciplines that are focused on advanced ceramic technologies, and is the magazine of record for the American Ceramic Society (ACerS), the leading society of its kind in the world, headquartered in Columbus, OH (Westerville).
